TUESDAY A.M. UPDATE: Canyon Fire 2 Is "Nearing Full Containment;" Assistance Center Closes

TUESDAY 7:00AM UPDATE:

The Canyon Fire 2, still considered active in the Anaheim Hills as of yesterday afternoon (Monday), is "nearing full containment with no further threats to neighborhoods," according to Anaheim Fire & Rescue's latest statement this morning.

Also, the City of Anaheim announced Monday that the Community Assistance Center for those affected by Canyon Fire 2 helped 50 people access services as part of the first steps of recovery and now has closed

MONDAY 7:00AM UPDATE:

Canyon fire 2, burning in Orange County's Anaheim Hills area, is now 90 percent contained, up from 75 percent containment Saturday night.  Anaheim Fire & Rescue said in a statement last night that firefighters made great progress yesterday (Sunday) despite hot, dry weather and strong winds in the morning.

The number of firefighters now is at 677, down from some 900 earlier.

Full containment still is projected for tomorrow (Tuesday).

In a positive sign, there will be no more daily updates from the front.

Anaheim Fire & Rescue will continue to provide updates periodically as warranted.

Ken Vincent has retired. We appreciate the way he shared his expertise with many of our young interns and reporters over the nearly eight years he spent as KVCR's lead journalist and Morning Edition host. We wish him a happy and relaxing retirement as he spends more time in his garden and, as he mentioned, more time on the golf course. Thanks Ken!
