Strong Santa Ana winds continue to fan the flames of a handful of major wildfires that have burned tens of thousands of acres, destroyed scores of homes and other structures, and resulted in the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people from Southern California neighborhoods. As of Tuesday morning, firefighters were battling 3 wildfires in Southern California. The biggest regional blaze is the Thomas Fire in Ventura County. In Los Angeles County, the Creek Fire started last night and quickly ripped through acreage in the San Fernando Valley. And in the inland Empire, a smaller fire being called the Riverdale Fire is being fought in the Santa Ana riverbed in Riverside. KVCR's Ken Vincent has details.
An increasing number of wildfires in recent years has governors in the West pushing for more federal money to help fight them. As Capital Public Radio's Randol White explains, this requires changes to the way Congress does it's wildfire budgeting.
