A new California law bans most people from carrying a concealed firearm on campus. That's even though an Inland Empire law enforcement officer who heads the group behind the law says armed students or teachers could limit casualties in the event of mass shootings. Students and staff returned to San Bernardino Valley College today (Wednesday), after the campus was evacuated Monday afternoon after someone phoned the college threatening bomb and gun violence on campus. The campus remained closed Tuesday as the investigation continued. KVCR's Matt Guilhem spoke to the SBVC Chief of Police about the incident and the investigation.
This Sunday is "Move-In Day" at Cal State San Bernardino. Hundreds of students who will live in on-campus housing will be moving into their digs this weekend, allowing them a few days to get settled before classes start next week. More from KVCR's Ken Vincent.
"Give Something Back" is an organization that provides scholarships and mentoring to low-income students in five states. A new partnership between the organization and California State University San Bernardino will establish a statewide,million-dollar college scholarship program for the Golden State's most at-risk students. Bob Carr, the founder and chairman of Give Something Back, introduced the program and presented a $1 million check to university officials back on May 9. With help from Coyote Radio at CSUSB, Rick Dulock spoke with Carr shortly after he presented the check.
Cal State San Bernardino officials will join Inland Empire Congressman Pete Aguilar at a news conference this afternoon to announce increased federal funding for Pell Grants, and to announce federal grants to CSUSB's Cybersecurity Studies program. More from KVCR's Ken Vincent.
There will be a memorial service and a celebration of the life of the late former president of Cal State San Bernardino, Al Karnig, who died last week at age 75. Today's service will be at 2:00 this afternoon at Coussoulis Arena on campus. The public is welcome. Following the celebration service, Dr. Karnig will be remembered at a reception at the Legacy Fountain adjacent to the arena. The event starts at 2:oo pm today at Coussoulis Arena; you’ll be directed to parking lot 'N' as you enter campus.
