Mart Fire Burns 900 Acres Above Highland; Manzanita Fire Has Scorched 6,300 Acres South Of Beaumont

Ian Schoenleber for inciweb.nwcg.gov

EDITOR'S NOTE:   AFTER THIS REPORT WAS PUBLISHED, ESTIMATES OF THE ACTUAL ACREAGE BURNED IN THE MART FIRE WERE CORRECTED FROM SOME 900 ACRES TO 670 ACRES WITH 40 PERCENT CONTAINMENT, AS OF THURSDAY, JUNE 29.

In Highland, a brush blaze that started yesterday afternoon has - as of this morning (Wednesday) - burned 902 acres and is 15 percent contained.  And south of Beaumont, firefighters are optimistic they'll get better control of the Manzanita Fire, which has burned 6309 acres since it started Sunday and is 20 percent contained.  More details on both fires from KVCR's Ken Vincent.

Ken Vincent has retired. We appreciate the way he shared his expertise with many of our young interns and reporters over the nearly eight years he spent as KVCR's lead journalist and Morning Edition host. We wish him a happy and relaxing retirement as he spends more time in his garden and, as he mentioned, more time on the golf course. Thanks Ken!
