Bluecut Fire Update: 15 Fwy Now Open Both Directions; Burn Area The Size Of San Francisco

www.nasa.gov

UPDATE AT 12:30 p.m. Thursday:  Interstate 15 is open to traffic both directions between the inland valleys and the high desert.  The northbound lanes of the 15 were opened late last night (Wednesday) in time for this morning's commute, and the southbound lanes of the 15 are now also open between Hesperia and the 215 interchange.

As of this morning, the Bluecut Fire had consumed nearly 32,000 acres, or just under 50 square miles, an area about the size of the city of San Francisco.  The blaze remains less than 10 percent contained.  As of Thursday afternoon, mandatory evacuation orders remained in effect for more than 82,000 residents in the vicinity of the fire zone.  More details on the fire are in the audio report below.

The following report from KVCR's Ken Vincent was aired this morning at 8:30 a.m.  For the latest information on the Bluecut Fire, click on or paste into your browser the following link:

Ken Vincent has retired. We appreciate the way he shared his expertise with many of our young interns and reporters over the nearly eight years he spent as KVCR's lead journalist and Morning Edition host. We wish him a happy and relaxing retirement as he spends more time in his garden and, as he mentioned, more time on the golf course. Thanks Ken!
