Autopsy Begins On Colton Student's Death; Colton District Says It's Communicating With Parents

Ken Vincent for KVCR

The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office had scheduled an autopsy for noon to determine the cause of death of 12 year old Dominick Gallegos. Gallegos died on Tuesday at Grant Elementary School. Supervising Deputy Gabriel Morales says the autopsy will hopefully answer more questions and “put an end to speculation,” of Gallegos’ death. He also mentions that more investigation and testing is needed depending on what they find in the autopsy.

The Colton Police Department is also investigating the case but says that any additional information will be available through the coroner’s office. Deputy Morales says that the information might be released this afternoon on their website, but that it depends on what happens in the autopsy.

Katie Orloff of the Colton Junction Unified School District says that the district has informed all parents of the incident through phone calls and Facebook. She also say Grant Elementary School will keep crisis counsellors on location to help with the “healing process” of this community. Yesterday another vigil was held at the school with nearly 500 people in attendance. Additionally Grant Elementary School has set up a Go Fund Me page to support the Gallegos family; as of midday Thursday it’s raised more than 10 thousand dollars.
